The archery competition at the XX Mediterranean Games is underway in Taranto, with 63 athletes from 18 nations competing across five recurve events.
The archery programme began on Tuesday with official practice, equipment inspection and the Team Managers Meeting, before the first competition day opened on Wednesday with the qualification rounds and the first elimination matches.
Spain’s Andres Temiño Mediel led the recurve men’s qualification with 664 points, ahead of Türkiye’s Mete Gazoz on 656 and Italy’s Matteo Borsani on 655.
In the women’s event, Italy’s Roberta Di Francesco topped the qualification ranking with 659, followed closely by Spain’s Elia Canales with 658. Türkiye’s Dünya Yenihayat finished third with 656.
Attention then turned to the team eliminations, where the line-ups for Friday’s first medal matches were decided.
France and Spain will meet for the men’s team gold medal after France defeated qualification leaders Italy 6-0 in the semifinals and Spain overcame Türkiye 5-3. Italy and Türkiye will contest the bronze medal.
The women’s semifinals produced a France–Türkiye gold medal match. France defeated Spain 6-2, while Türkiye came through a tight semifinal against Italy, winning 5-4 after a 24-23 shoot-off. Spain and Italy will meet for bronze.
Competition continues on Thursday with the individual elimination rounds, followed by the mixed team competition, as the remaining finalists are decided ahead of Friday’s medal matches.
The archery competition at Taranto 2026 concludes on 28 August.
