The qualification procedure for both compound and recurve competitions has been released.

The archery competition at the second edition of the European Games, due to be held in Minsk (BLR) in June 2019, are confirmed to include a compound event as well as the Olympic-style recurve tournament introduced in Baku in 2015.

It will become the third continental games to officially add compound to the programme, after the Asian Games in 2014 and the Pan American Games confirming its future inclusion in Lima in 2019.

Compound’s acceptance onto the programme of the European Games is yet more progress towards becoming more universally recognised and will further enhance the status of the discipline for other multisport events,” said World Archery Secretary General Tom Dielen.

The total number of archery athletes at the European Games remains at 128; with 32 of those (16 men and 16 women) assigned to compound athletes shooting in individual and mixed team events.

The remaining 96 places (48 men and 48 women) will be used for recurve individual, mixed team and team competitions. The Games will act as a direct qualifier for the Tokyo 2020, with each European Games individual and mixed team champion winning spots to the next Olympics.

Qualification for the European Games places is split over two tournaments, the 2018 European Championships in Legnica (POL) and a final qualifying tournament at a European Grand Prix event in April 2019.
