First Quota Places for Para Rio 2016

Six nations will already shoot at Para Rio 2016.

 

First day of Elimination Rounds at the World Archery Para Championships in Donaueschingen (GER) after two days of qualifications.

Today was time for Mixed Team matches: Compound Open, Recurve Open and W1. At the end of the morning session we know the first nations that earned quota places for Paralympic Games – Rio 2016.

Three of them are European country:

CHINA

En-plein for PR China Team.

Such a great competition: once gained the top four position they will shoot for Gold in all divisions.

Quota places earned:

Compound open: 2 (1 man, 1 woman)

Recurve open: 2 (1 man, 1 woman)

W1: 2 (1 man, 1 woman)

GREAT BRITAIN

The top-ranked GB W1 mixed team had an automatic bye into the semifinals – in an event with only seven teams competing. Jo Frith and John Walker’s strong qualification got the nation its first two places to the Games.

Two more spots were added when John Stubbs and Mel Clarke posted an eight-point win over Spain in the compound open mixed team quarterfinals winning those vital Paralympic places. 

Quota places earned:

Compound open: 2 (1 man, 1 woman)

W1: 2 (1 man, 1 woman)

ITALY

Despite admitting at the start of the week she had a shoulder injury and her expectations for the event were lower than usual, Elisabetta Mijno, paired with Roberto Airoldi, had no trouble to take two Rio spots in recurve open mixed team competition.

Italy’s compound open pair top-seeded Alberto Simonelli and Eleonora Sarti took other two places for Rio 2016.

Quota places earned:

Compound open: 2 (1 man, 1 woman)

Recurve open: 2 (1 man, 1 woman)

KOREA

Quota places earned:

Compound open: 2 (1 man, 1 woman)

Recurve open: 2 (1 man, 1 woman)

RUSSIA

Ranked second in the recurve open mixed team competition, top individual qualifier Bato Tsydendorzhiev and Margarita Sidorenko beat Turkey then Thailand, surrendering only a single set point in the process. The semifinal berth, won after that second match, got Russia the Rio places.

The nation’s W1 mixed team had a 28-point victory over the Czech Republic in the quarterfinal to make the qualifying top four.

Quota places earned:

Recurve open: 2 (1 man, 1 woman)

W1: 2 (1 man, 1 woman)

USA

Quota places earned:

W1: 2 (1 man, 1 woman)

 

Further places were available to top individual finishers from tomorrow with the Individuals Elimination Rounds.
