Qualification Day Completed at the European Youth Championships in Rome

The first competition day of the 2026 European Youth Championships concluded on Tuesday in Rome with the completion of the qualification rounds.

A total of 376 athletes representing 40 countries competed across two sessions in the recurve, compound and barebow divisions.

The day also produced two record-breaking performances, pending ratification.

Great Britain’s Oliver Hicks and Evie Finnegan combined for 1238 points in the Barebow Under 21 Mixed Team qualification. The score surpassed the existing Under 21 and senior barebow mixed team world and European records.

France’s Arthur Gerardin, Kylan Hepp and Maël Lamouret also improved the European record in the recurve under-18 men’s team event, scoring 2011 points. The previous European mark stood at 2007.

Simon Moritz (GER) recorded the highest individual score of the day, leading the Compound Under 21 Men qualification with 711 points.

Dunya Yenihayat (TUR) produced the highest recurve score, topping the Recurve Under 18 Women ranking with 682 points, 24 points ahead of second place. Lily Wright (GBR) led the Compound Under 18 Women category with 686, while Begum Yuva (TUR) finished first in Compound Under 21 Women with 685.

France claimed both recurve men’s individual top positions through Baptiste Addis in the Under 21 category and Gerardin in the Under 18 event. Great Britain secured both individual barebow top seeds through Hicks and Finnegan.

Türkiye also finished first in five team and mixed team qualification events. France topped both Recurve Under 18 team rankings, Spain led the Recurve Under 21 Women team and mixed team standings, Germany finished first in the Compound Under 21 Men team event, and Great Britain led the Compound Under 18 Mixed Team qualification.

Competition continues today with team and mixed team eliminations.
